The Life of Corey Kissling and Honoring Him through His Memorial Scholarship

The Corey Kissling Memorial Scholarship Foundation was set up to honor our son and brother, Corey, who passed away on June 11, 2008 while vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC, just 10 days after graduating from Logan High School.

Since elementary school, Corey’s dream was to become a Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician. He was a strong young man with a desire to help others. Through his scholarship fund, he will continue to help others and his fellow alumni with their college education.

The Corey Kissling Memorial Scholarship Foundation's mission is to honor Corey by raising scholarship funds and grant award money to Logan High School Seniors attending a 2 or 4 year college upon graduation. Our goal is to award $10,000 each year.

Corey loved the game of football, and he played from 4th grade through Varsity earning numerous honors, including 2008 Defensive Player of the Year SEAOL, and Division 2 - All-Ohio 1st Team. He carried the highest tackling stats for the Logan Chieftains in 2007 with 145 total tackles and in 2008 with 142 total tackles.

Here are a few comments from the Logan Chieftain fans –

“He is an amazing player with a true gift for finding the ball. He takes on all comers and delivers a blow. I love him at the nose guard position. He has excellent quickness and when he breaks through no quarterback can elude him.” - 2old

“I like Corey wherever he plays. He gets to the football and can deliver a hit. He is a tremendous tackler. I like when we drop him down to the line, he is so quick and tenacious he squeezed through linemen like a knife through butter.” – Gary Frye

“Kissling was the Chiefs' leading tackler for a second consecutive season. The 5-8, 172-pound senior was involved in 142 tackles (nearly 13 per game), leading the Purple & White with 43 solo tackles, 99 assists, 42 first hits and 10 tackles for loss with three quarterback sacks. He also scored four touchdowns (three rushing and one receiving) as a fullback.” – Logan Daily News

“Kissling may have one of the best noses for the football on the entire team, and is one of the team’s best tacklers.” - SEOPS

Corey also enjoyed playing baseball, hanging out with his friends, fishing, and hunting. Although his life was shortened, he lived his life fully.

Our family and friends helped to raise over $12,000 last year with the 1st Annual Battle of the Bands and the 1st Annual Corey Kissling Foundation "45" Golf Outing.  Dates for 2010, are Battle of the Bands on May 15, 2010 and the Golf Outing on June 19th.

Keeping Corey’s Scholarship Fund available for the future is the most important thing to me as it allows Corey’s memory to help and touch the lives of others.

Thank you,

Jodi, David, Michael & Cameron Donaldson
